Table and coffee table tops should be protected from direct high temperatures (hot dishes), wetting (e.g., leaky vases), dampness, scratching (placing sharp objects or other items such as metal sculptures, metal handbag fittings), and chemically active solutions (including spilled solvent, alcohol, body care fluids). These factors can cause damage, e.g., to the varnish, and may result in stains, discoloration, or dulling. Coasters should be used to prevent damage.
